Isaac and Fannie Palmer Family


Fannie Mates Palmer 1889-1980 was daughter of Lemison Mates 1852-1926 and Mary Frances Butler 1867-1943, daughter of Lorenzo Butler. Fannie was born in Jackson County.

My grandfather Isaac Jacob Palmer 1883-1952 was son of Isaac Marion Palmer 1851-1920 and Susan/Susanna Hensler 1853-1899.

My father was Floyd Thomas Palmer 1917-1972 son of Isaac and Fannie Mates Palmer. He was born in Athens and married in Athens my mother Betty Jane Dickerson 1921-1999, daughter of Emmett Willard Dickerson 1899-1947 and Elizabeth Agnes Sofranko 1903-1986, daughter of George and Anna.

Emmett Willard Dickerson's parents were Enoch Russell Dickerson and Elizabeth Miller. His grandparents were Enoch Russell Dickerson and Mahitable Holcomb, daughter of Reuben Wetmore Holcomb and Rebecca Niles. Mahitable was neice of Gen'l Samuel Robert Holcomb. Emmett was grandson of John Dickerson and Mary Russell whose parents were most likely Enoch Russell of the Revolution, and Ruth Riddle.

Two of Six Sons in Service Return

       CHAUNCEY--Two sons of Mr. and Mrs. Isaac Palmer, Mill St., Chauncey, have been discharged from the Army. Robert served 37 months, 21 of which were overseas. He wears six battle stars, Purple Heart Ribbon, ETO Ribbon, and Good Conduct Medal. He was also awarded the Certificate of Merit for meritorous service as an anti-aircraft gunner. He took part in the battle for Britain, Normandy, Northern France, Ardennes, Germany, and the Ruhr. He was with the Ninth airforce in England and landed in Normandy D-Day plus 12 and was assigned later to the 35th Santa Fe Division which fought with the First, Third, Ninth, Seventh Armies and relieved part of the British Second Army on the Seigfried Line. He fought on the front lines 103 days without rest. He and his wife Louise will reside in Cleveland where he is employed.
       Cpl. Floyd Palmer was stationed on the coast of South America for two years and one year in the Panama Canal Zone. He took Radar and Radio and he and his wife Betty are in Cleveland and he will continue his work at Chase and Brass.
       Mr. and Mrs. Palmer have four more sons still in service. Pfc. Lewis Palmer in Germany, Chief Petty Officer Clyde Palmer of the Coast Guard, S-Sgt. Austin Palmer of the Marine Air Corps, and S-1-c Richard Palmer in the South Pacific. All expect to be discharged before Christmas except S-1-c Richard Palmer.
