1. THOMAS1 SOMERS was born Abt. 1800 in England, and died Abt. 1844 in Athens County, Ohio. He married MARTHA TAYLOR Abt. 1825 in England, or Nova Scotia. She was born 1805 in England, and died 1863 in Athens Co, Ohio she is buried in the Buchtel Whitmore Cemetery.  After Thomas died before 1850 she remarried to James Howorth.Thomas and Martha had a child in Nova Scotia, showing that they were in America by 1833. There census records say that both were born in England.

The heirs of Thomas Somers were named in an Athens Co. deed (Volume 40, pp. 207-208). It was signed by them Nov. 21, 1872 in Athens County. those named were: Aaron Lewis, Ruth C. Lewis, George Somers, Harriet Somers, Emory Newton, Sarah Newton, all of York twp., Athens County; John Bridge and Jane Bridge of Perry Co., Oh and James Harper and Mary Harper of Jackson County, OH. The deed involved Thomas' 93 and 1/2 acres in Trimble township.

I am 63 years of age, and am the widow of George Sommers who was a brother of Mary Ann Sommers who married James Harper in Nelsonville O in 1853.  I know and testify that neighter said Mary Ann Sommers nor said James Harper were ever married before their marriage to each other in 1853.  I knew them both before their marriage and if either of them had been previously married I cenrtainly would have known it.  I have no interest in the said pension claim, and my P. O. is Nelsonville, Ohio.  Harriett P. Sommers her mark.  December 14, 1906 Widows pension of Mary Ann Harper, widow of James Harper late of Company K of the 36th regiment of the Ohio Infantry, civil war.

Harriett Sommers- Mrs. Harriett Sommers dies Thursday. Nelsonville, Ohio March 22, Mrs. Harriett Sommers 89, pioneer resident of Nelsonville, and widow of George Sommers, died Thursday afternoon at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Thomas Bush, Poplar Street, this city, where she had made her home for the last 12 years. Mrs. Sommers was born in England and came to Nelsonville with her parents at the age of two years. Sher had since made her home hers. She was a well known and respected resident of this community.
She leaves three children, Mrs. Bush and Noah Sommers, Nelsonville, and Mrs. Charles Richardson of Toledo; also 9 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren. Her husband and five children preceded her in death.
Funeral services will be held at the residence of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Bush, 650 Poplar Street on Sunday afternoon at 3 o'clock.

Sommers funeral- March 26 Funeral services for Mrs. Harriett Pauline Sommers were held Sunday afternoon at 3 o'clock at the residence of her daughter, Mrs. T. Bush, Poplar Street. The Rev. Harvey Howard assisted by the Rev. G.W. Hoffman officiated and burial was made at Greenlawn. The following from out of town attended the funeral: Z.W. Bridge and family, Mr. and Mrs. N.S. Cook, Columbus; Mr. and Mrs. Will Bridge of New Marshfield; Frank and Douglas Lewis, Mrs. Margaret England, Mrs. Zoe McCollister, of Floodwood, and Mrs. George Gabriel of the Plains.

Circle Hill- Mrs. Jane Bridge, 78 passed away at her home here Thursday. Funeral services will be held at her home Thursday afternoon. Interment was made in the Greenlawn cem. No. 9 mine was idle Thursday. Mrs. Bridge died at the home of her son, Vern Bridge.

Mr. Z. Bridge of Glouster was called here Tuesday by the death of his mother, Mrs. Jane Bridge, Mrs. Bridge was 78 years old was the mother of twelve children of whom six sons and one daughter are left.
