GLOUSTER -- An Oregon Ridge couple died within an hour of each other this morning, both of natural causes.

Mrs. Mary Miller, 77, died at 4:45 a.m. in Mount St. Mary Hospital. Her husband, Frank, 85 died at 5:45 a.m. at the family home on Oregon Ridge (Millfield, Route 1). They are survived by 148 descendents.

Mr. and Mrs. Miller were both born in Hungary. They had resided on Oregon Ridge since 1905. Both were members of St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Buchtel. Mrs. Miller belonged to the Catholic Women's Club and Mr. Miller to the Holy Name Society of the church. He was a retired coal miner and a member of Local 648, United Mine Workers of America and the Jacksonville Eagles Lodge.

Surviving are five sons, Joseph, Victor and Frank, all of Detroit, Mich.; Edward of South Rockwood, Mich.; and John of Chauncey; five daughters, Mrs. Teresa Erdy, Grove City, Miss Emma Miller, Millfield, Route 1, Mrs. Elizabeth Dietrich, Circleville; Mrs. Mary Ann Kochis, Detroit; and Mrs. Ethel May McConnell, Nelsonville; 59 grandchildren and 79 great-grand-children. Mrs. Miller is also survived by a sister, Mrs. Teresa Bellak of Hungary. Two sons, Leo and William, preceded their parents in death.

Services will be conducted Saturday, 11 a.m., at St. Patrick's Church, with the Rev. Fr. Frank Baudo, the Rev. Fr. Joseph Gardner and the Rev. Fr. Anthony Nickel officiating. Burial will be in St. Patrick's Cemetery.

Friends may call at the Norbert W. Johnston funeral home from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 9 p.m. Friday. The Rosary will be recited Friday, 8 p.m. The family suggests that memorial remembrances be made to St. Patrick's Church.

Louisville, Ky. -- Emma Miller, 88, of Louisville, Ky., died Wednesday, Aug. 21, 1996, at her home.

Born Oct. 9, 11907 in Athens County, she was the daughter of the late Frank Miller and Mary Reinberger Miller.

She is survived by two sisters, Elizabeth Dietrich of Circleville, and Ethel McConnell of Nelsonville; four brothers, Joseph Miller of Lennox Township, Mich., Victor Miller of Williston, Fla., John Miller of Louisville, and Edward Miller of Flat Rock, Mich.; 77 nieces and nephews, and 358 grandnieces, grandnephews, great-grandnieces and great-grandnephews.

Services will be Saturday at 10 a.m. at St. Mary of the Hills Catholic Church in Buchtel, with the Rev. Father John Mucha officiating. Burial will be Saturday at St. Patrick Catholic Cemetery in Buchtel.

Friends may call Friday, from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the church. Arrangements are by Warren-Brown Funeral Home in Nelsonville.

Buchtel -- John A. Miller, 84, son of the late Frank and Mary Miller of Oregon Ridge, Athens County, died Thursday, March 13th, 2003 in Louisville, Ky.

He was formerly stationed at Yuma Army Airfield in Yuma, Ariz., as a B-17 pilot and served during WWII as a MATS pilot. He was also an active member of St. Luke's Catholic Church and two Knights of Columbus chapters, as 3rd Degree member of the Pope John XXIII council, and as a 4th Degree member of the Msgr. Bouchet Assembly.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Cecelia York Miller. He is survived by his children, C.C. Miller and Stephen Miller of California, and Kathi Miller Shulthise of Louisville; sisters Ethel McConnell and Elizabeth Dietrich of Ohio; and a brother Edward Miller of Michigan; 10 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be held at St. Luke's Catholic Church, Jefferson County, Kentucky, today from 3 to 6 p.m. with a funeral Mass to follow at 7 p.m. Service also will be Monday at 2 p.m. Buchtel Cemetery, Nelsonville.

Expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to Hospice and Palliative Care of Louisville. Arrangements are by Schoppenhorst-Underwood and Brooks Funeral Home, Shepardsville, Ky.
