The OHGenWeb Project

Welcome to The OHGenWeb Project

In March and April 1996, a group of genealogists organized the Kentucky Comprehensive Genealogy Database Project. The idea was to provide a single entry point for all counties in Kentucky where collected databases would be stored. In additon, these databases would be indexed and cross-linked, so that even if an individual were found in more than one county, they could be located in the index.

OHGenWeb is an extension of that premise.

Volunteers were found for Ohio who were willing to coordinate the collection of data and generally oversee the contents of the web site for each county within the state. There are National guidelines, then state guidelines and then county guidelines which must be followed to keep the spirit of "free genealogy provided on the internet". If you have a desire to add your information to the county site's data contact the volunteer host cited on the county site.

Just as the beautiful landscape of Ohio is ever changing with the seasons, so is the OHGenWeb project as coordinators join, or retire, and each place their positive mark on the project. We are very thankful for our great group of volunteers both past and present.

You may notice a message beside the county listing indicating it is available for adoption. This means that the current county coordinator is looking for a replacement host. If you would like to adopt a web site for an available county, please read the county host requirements information, then contact the current owner of the site, whose name is listed at that website, or contact the State Coordinator with your interest.
