Notes from Judy about these families:

William BURRIS was a very early settler in Morgan County. [He paid real property taxes in Center Twp in 1826, 1830, 1832 jmb] He came to Manchester Twp earlier and had lived before this in Bristol Twp according to Eck Humphries. The land patent of Sept 1, 1838 was in the hands of James D RODEBACK [this in 1939 jmb] and was one of the last US Government land patents issued in Manchester Twp. It was signed by Martin Van Buren.

William and Charlotte lost 2 children while living in Manchester Twp who are buried in the almost forgotten DEEN TOPE Cemetery of Center Twp.

They may have squatted on this land earlier than 1838. They were the first couple married in Morgan County. [In Bristol Twp Dec 27, 1819. jmb] Eck Humphries, an early Morgan County Historian, described their wedding in the HERALD as being held at a cabin owned by Stanton FORDYCE near Muttonberg or Rt 78 at that time. William BURRIS voted in Center in 1822. In 1822 Benjamin DEAN was a judge in an election in Center and lived at the Jesse HAINES place on the Manchester---Center Twp border.
