Just begining to construct a family tree. I know my grandmother, Mabel Hoover, wife of Delbert C. Hoover, born Mabel Ramsey is burried in McConnesville; I believe in 1965. My preliminary search indicates she was born in either 1886 or 1887. I don't know where. She had a sister that lived her whole life in McConnelsville by the married name of Net (Nettie) Sims. Her son's name was Cecil Sims. Cecil moved to West Lafayette, Ohio. Possibly my grandfather is also burried with her. He died much later at the age of 99. I believe his father was Edward Frank Hoover, 1861-1951. I'm more sure of his grandfather, Andrew M. Hoover, 1834-1863 because of his confirmed service(and death) in the Civil War. My grandfather had five brothers. Most of them lived out their full lives in Morgan County; Dayton, Lewis F., Andrew J., Cecil and John. I'm still missing a lot of dates, names, and places! And I know nothing of my grandmother's family, Ramsey. I'm hoping to be able to subscribe to Morgan County's LISTSERVE in the hopes that other members may have also investigated these family names, or can possibly provide usefull links. This is such a great Home Page that I find myself spending a lot of time here. Nice job Norm Smith! My gr.gr. grandfather, Samuel Sailor (1782-1872), was in what is now Morgan/Noble Co. prior to 1815. His tract of land stayed put, but it moved from Washington to Morgan to Noble Co. and the new counties were formed. Both Samuel and his wife, Mary Simms Sailor, are buried in Sailor Cemetery southwest of Sharon, OH at junction of C.R. 9 & C.R. 10.

I loved finding you. Thought I left a query here last Spring. My Great great great grandparents are buried at Malta Cem. in Morgan County. Jacob Bumgardner was a Vet. of the War of 1812, and it took his wife nearly 50 years to prove it for the land grant. His officers changed twice in a month. Any of his descendents want to email me, I would love to share our heritage as I know it. His wife was Rebecca Seabrooks. They had 12 children, all are scattered around Ohio, Zanesville, and other places. I wrote a book on his grandson's family down to our current descendents---only for sale in family. My dad's family was from McConnelsville & I loved visiting back in the 1960s. I'm sure most of our close relations are gone now but if anyone remembers my grandmother Mary Gorrell Archer I'm happy to tell you she is doing great at (almost) 98. Glad to know you. My Mendenhall clan came to OH from Pa in 1818 to Guernsey county and left OH in early 1865. What happened in the area in 1864 for them to decide to leave. I've heard such things as they did not want anything to do with oil which was discovered or that the Southern raiders mistreated them as they were Quakers--Likely not so.
