This is the information I have questions about for the Ohio page. I am searching for one relative whoom I imagine is burried in either Morgan Co. or Meigs Co. The family is Prince Holbrook who was born in 1766 in Georgetown, ME and who died in McConnelsville, Ohio on 6 Feb 1842. My daughter did find his grave. It is his wife whom we cannot find. Her name was Abigail (Nabby) Griffin Holbrook and she is listed as 86 yrs. of age in the 1850 Ohio Census. However, I am told there are no records in Ohio about her. Their children lived in McConnelsville as well, but again, no one has determined where Nabby might be buried. I have found that there is a neice or sister-in-law of Abigail and Prince who is buried in Meigs Cem. adj. Ohio Rt. 178, 7 miles E. of McConnelsville and a new stone was placed at her grave in 1980. Her name was Harriet Holbrook Lawrence and her son is there as well and his name is Joseph Warren. It might be possible that they were buried near each other. Are there any records in churches which might be helpful? Do you have any suggestions? Prince and Abigail are listed in the Maine Families Before 1790 published by Picton Press and their children are all listed and who they married in McConnelsville which I can provide if that will be helpful. Thank you in advance for any suggestions you may have. Beverly

I am looking for information on my great great grandfather, Robert Fitch. Robert Fitch married Sarah Barkhurst in Ohio. She was born March 16, 1826 and died December 3, 1836 after their only child Elizabeth Nancy Fitch was born October 17, 1846 in Morgan, County, Ohio. Robert Fitch was born June 4, 1824. He may have been born in Glasgow, Scotland or his family may have originally come from Scotland. Sarah Barkhurst's parents were John and Elizabeth Barkhurst of Morgan County, Ohio. They raised their granddaughter, Nancy E. Fitch. According to family information, Robert Fitch remarried after the death of his first wife and moved to Keokuck, Iowa. He raised a family there and was buried there. Nancy E. Fitch stayed in Morgan County, Ohio, where she married Lysander Asa on 11/3/1866. They had many children, including my grandfather, Oran Conley Asa. I would really appreciate any information anyone could send me about my great great grandfather, Robert Fitch. Thank you.

Nancy Boon, May 22, 1999
I am looking for information on the Barkhurst line. John Barkhurst b: 1806 Wife: Elizabeth. He is listed in Bloom Twp., Morgan Co., Ohio in 1830. In the 1850 Census he was living in Meigsville Twp, Morgan Co, Ohio. He was 44 years old. Living with him was his wife, Elizabeth, and children Catharine, Elizabeth, John W., and Charles W. In the 1860 Census Elizabeth N. Fitch, age 13 is listed with this family. We assume this is Nancy Fitch. Sarah Barkhurst was born in Ohio On March 16, 1826 and died on December 3, 1846 in Ohio. She married Robert Fitch whose family we have been unable to trace. He is known to have remarried after his wife's death and moved to Keokuck, Iowa. Elizabeth N. Fitch (Nancy) is not listed with the family in the 1870 census. She married Lysander Asa in 1865 and lived with him in Morgan County, Ohio. John Barkhurst and his wife Elizabeth are not listed in the 1880 Ohio Census as they had moved to Marion Co., Oregon. John Barkhurst's Will is dated January 26,. 1883 and probated Oct 27, 1883. It lists his granddaughter, Nancy Asa. This would seem to prove that Nancy Fitch Asa was the granddaughter of John and Elizabeth Barkhurst and that Sarah Barkhurst was their daughter. I would appreciate any help with this line. I would like to know the line of John Barkhurst and also his wife Elizabeth. Also, I would like to know any information about descendants of this line and would like to contact them. Also, any information on Robert Fitch would be greatly appreciated. Likewise, I would gladly share information about the line of Elizabeth N. Fitch and Lysander Asa. I hope to hear from you soon.

WARD, SKINNION, SKENYON, SMITH, MCGUIRE. John J Ward and Anna Skinnion were married in Morgan Co Ohio on September 23, 1856. Anna sister, Mary Skenyon (unknown why they spelled their names different) was born in McConnellsville, Ohio Jan. 16, 1847. We have a letter to Anna from her cousin Eugene Smith dated 186?, from Zanesville, Ohio talking of cousin Mary, Jolace, and Uncle John. John had just sold some town property and bought land in the country near Peter Carrol. It goes on to talk of going to Chapel Hill for one of his yearly payments, does anyone know what this might be? John Ward's father was also John and his mother was Maggie McGuire all were born in Ireland. Anna Skinnion father was Patrick and her mother was Mary Quenn. Family stories tell of three brothers being killed in the Civil War. John and Anna Ward left Ohio for Nebraska between 1857 and 1860. Mary followed them later and married Irvin Sutley after they all had moved to Phillips Co Kansas. Any help anyone can give us is appreciated.

WEEKLEY -- William and Susannah Gregsley Weekley brought their family from Shenandoah County, Virginia to Olive Township, Morgan County (later to become part of Noble County) sometime between 1800-1825. They came by wagon train led by Major Bonnifield. I am trying to find when they set up residence in Olive Township. Their children lived and married in Noble and Belmont County. It is important to my research that I find this information. Is there a history of Morgan County that would contain this type of info? Or, can someone tell me how to find this information through this web site as I cannot travel to Morgan County to search the archives. Would greatly appreciate any help. Please e-mail BJHREADS@aol.com
