Nancy Boon Thu Jan 2, 1997, 13:39:30
My great great grandparents lived in Ohio. I believe they lived in Morgan County. My great great grandmother was Sarah Barkhurst. She was born in Ohio on March 16, 1826. She married Robert Fitch who is supposed to have been born in Glasgow, Scotland on June 4, 1824. They had one child, my greatgrandmother, Nancy Fitch. Nancy Fitch was born October 17, 1846 in Ohio. Sarah Barkhurst Fitch died December 3, 1846 at age 20. She died six weeks after Nancy Fitch was born. Robert Fitch later remarred and moved to Keokuck, IA. He rasied a family and was buried there. I assume Nancy may have been raised by relatives in Ohio, as she married Lysander Asa in Morgan County, Ohio on 11/3/1866. Any help would be greatly appreciated on the ancestors of Sarah Barkhurst or Robert Fitch. Thank you very much.

The shortest branch on my family tree is my father's maternal line, the Pearls. We know her father was William Andrew Pearl and that he married Mary Alice Higgins, who was probably from Benwood, WV, as that is where the family settled and still is today. Oral history tells that William Andrew was born in Springfield (Clark Co.), Ohio. I am hoping to locate a birth date and parents' names. His daughter (My grandmother) was born in 1903, so I would expect him to have been born in the 1870s or 1880s? I also located a William A. Pearl born 17 March 1838 in York Twp. Morgan Co., Ohio. This is an age where he cound possibly be a father, Uncle or grandfather. Any help or links anyone can provide would be greatly appreciated, and I could provide some descendent information.

I am researching the MILLER family. I have located the grave sites of some of the MILLER family in a Morgan County cementary in Neelysville, Ohio. The markers indicate that John MILLER was born in 1799 in Virginia. He died 06-03-1861. His wife was Catherine CALENDINE. No birth date was listed. She died 09-08-1860. She was also born in Virginia. I'm not having much luck going backwards and would appreciate any advice.
Thanks, Stephen Miller

Searching for LUCK, DUKORN, WEISFLOCK, family members. Henry Luck is supposed to have died in service during a war in mid 1800's. His wife Elizabeth (Zimmermann) Luck left Virginia with her luggage (which contained the deed to their farm) and small children, (#?). The trunk with the farm deed was lost. The farm was sold for back taxes, (location of farm unknown). I only know the name of one child, William born abt 1850. Henry's father's name is possible Wilhelm Henrich Leuck. The family is said to have come from Bavaria, Germany. His mother was possibly Barthena. I have a Martin Luck who married Dorthea Mamie Dukorn, this is direct descendant to me. From here I have the family information. If anyone has my missing link, PLEASE contact me, I will share what I have.

Four attempts to contact the Morgan County Courthouse (31 Dec. 1994; 15 Apr. 1995; 3 Jan. 1996, and 1 Mar. 1997) have been met with no response.

We are looking for information on Andrew Chapman of Hopewell Twp. and last address at his sons home at Shaum Ave. in Zanesville where he died on September 8, 1901 at the age of 91 yrs. old . He was born March 6, 1807. He was found buying land in Morgan Co. in 1832, then moved his family north to Hopewell Twp, in Muskingum Co. in 1837. He married a Nancy Lake believed to be from Licking Co. He had 7 children , Thomas Jefferson, Phillip, George William, James Willis, Perlia B., Albert, Sarah. Having died in that vicinity, we cannot find where he was burried. We need to find where he was born also. Some of his childrens obituaries say Virginia? His father was found dying in Morgan Co. on May of 1831. His name was William and his wife Elizabeth who died in May of 1833, both of whom resided and died in Union Twp. Morgan Co. William who first appears in Licking Co. census in 1820, buys land their in 1816. We are trying hard to join the first families of Ohio. We are members of the Marion Co. Historical Society. Please send what you can.
Thank you, Vicky (Chapman) Lowe

Looking for the LANSING family. A woman LANSING is supposed to be the mother of my ggg-grandmother Henrietta McELROY. According to some old notes Henrietta had an uncle Robert and Eli. I found a Robert and Eli B. LANSING living next to one another in Brookfield Township, Morgan County, Ohio in the 1830 Census. Also according to the Morgan County Courthouse Marriage Index for 1819-1840 Eli B. (probably Bingham) married a Savina DILLER and Robert B. married an Amy Ann Burlingame. I believe my gggg-grandmother's name was Lucy, but there are conflicting sources which suggest it may be Rachel. Henrietta McELROY also may have had a sister Rachel and definitely had a sister Lucy. In any case, a Rachel LANSING married a F.L. Gilbreath according to that same index. I am planning on writing to Morgan County for more information on these marriages, but thought I'd post a query here anyway. If you don't have access to email for some reason, my mailing address is P.O. Box 9943, Stanford, CA 94309-1643. Thank you.

James and Elizabeth had 8 children: Hugh, of Boston Twp., Ionia Co., husband of Margaret MCDONALD; Catherine (of Riverside, Berrien Co., MI, in 1909), wife of Edward or Nathan FIELD and a Mr. VORHEES; Nathan, who lived in Berrien Co., MI, in 1862; Phillip, husband of Eleanor GREEN of Belding, MI; Nancy A., wife of a Mr. CLARK of Emmons, MN; Millie, wife of Jerome Pony DUFFEY of Lowell, MI; Keziah, who appeared in the 1850 census with James, but of whom I have found no other information; Harriet Hattie, wife of Allison KNEE of Lowell, MI. After Elizabeth's death in 1850, some of the children were apparently farmed out to neighbors and friends. We know very little about some of them. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

His wife was Nancy LARIMER or LARIMORE (ca 1786, probably Westmoreland Co., PA - 28 Jul 1873, Cameron, Clinton Co., MO). Their known children, some of whom I know very little about are: Hugh L., husband of Harriet PALMER; Isaac, who died before 1842, whose wife was Mariah HACKNEY; James, who married Elizabeth HOLLINSHEAD; Margaret L., wife of Robert HOLCOMB; Mary "Polly", wife of James LONGSTRETH; Prudence, who married Joseph MCCUSKEY; and John, husband of Sarah A. HOUSE. There may be two different John DODDS, who lived near each other, one born circa 1770, the other born circa 1783. One from Westmoreland Co., PA, bought land in 1808 (recorded in Steubenville Land Office), and in 1818, a John DODDS of Washington Co., PA, bought land (recorded in Canton-Wooster Land Office). I have a direct line ancestor, Harry ALEXANDER who was born 13 May 1866 in McConnellsville, Ohio, Morgan County to Charles ALEXANDER and Amanda DUTCHER ALEXANDER. I haven't been able to find anything on Charles and Amanda in this locality. Is there anyone out there who is researching the ALEXANDER line or the DUTCHER line? Is there anyone who has heard of either line in or around Morgan County, Ohio? Any information would be helpful even if these particular names are not familiar. I might be able to go on with my search if I had more names etc. to go on. Does anyone have any suggestions as to where I can turn to? Harry ALEXANDER ended up in Tuscarawas County, Ohio married to Alice Gerusha STOCKER. But I do not see his parents in that area. I have Harry's death certificate but the parents were not listed. I found the names of the parents in a reference book STOCKER FAMILY at the State Library here in Columbus, Ohio. But I found many errors in the book and now I am afraid that maybe the names given for Harry's parents wasn't correct. Thank you to anyone who can point in another direction with these surnames. I placed a Morgan County Query on August 20, 1997 and since that time I may have come across something new for my ALEXADER line. As mentioned before my gr grandfather Harry ALEXANDER was born in McConnellsville, Morgan County, Ohio on the 13 May 1866. In a reference book titled THE STOCKER FAMILY I found Harry's name and supposedly his parent's names, Charles and Amanda (DUTCHER) ALEXANDER but I have been researching the parent's names for quite some time and have never been able to trace them at all. Harry's death certifcate didn't list their names. Yesterday, September 26, 1997 I visited the Historical Society here in Columbus and found an 1870 Morgan County Census for a James H. Alexander with a wife Amanda and five children one of them was a son named Harry who was at the time 4 years old which would have put his birth year at 1866. When going over other data in the STOCKER FAMILY BOOK I noticed quite a few errors in names and data that I know were not correct. So I am thinking that maybe Harry's parents were not listed correctly. Is there any one out there familiar with the following ALEXANDER NAMES? James H. ALEXANDER, age 34 in 1870, Amanda, age 38 in 1870, born in NY, William age 12, Charles A.,age 7, Harry St. Clair age 4, Lizzie age 2, and Ida age 3/12 b. Feb. 20 1870. If any of these names look familiar please contact me at jadean46@aol.com I would certainly appreciate any information or suggestions as to how to go about furthering my research on this line. I posted a query in September, 1997 on the ALEXANDER/DUTCHER surnames in Morgan County, Ohio. Since I posted the query I found that I had some data that wasn't correct. I am placing this new query to make the corrections. I am researching an Amanda DUTCHER who married a James H. ALEXANDER on the 19 October 1855 in Morgan County, Ohio. Amanda's father might have been a Thomas DUTCHER age 66,born in New York according to 1870 Morgan County Census. Amanda was born in 1832 in New York. Amanda and James H. ALEXANDER had at least six children William, Charles A., Harry St. Clair, Lizzie, Ida and Alice D. Harry St. Clair ALEXANDER, my direct line, was born in McConnellsville, Morgan County, Ohio in 1866. He married Alice Gerusha STOCKER and then later resided in Tuscarawas County, Ohio. I am trying to further my research on the DUTCHER and ALEXANDER line from this area. Is there anyone who is familiar with either the DUTCHER surname or the ALEXANDER surname. Any suggestions on where I can look next for parents names/siblings etc.? Please contact me at jadean46@aol.com Thank you and happy hunting everyone, Jadean Hopper

Please, would someone advise me of the location of the town of Bartlett in Morgan Co., Ohio. I did not see it on the on-line map. Also, how would an individual access the Quaker records for the Monthly Meeting of individuals living in Barlett, Ohio? And has there been a registration of the graves at the "Friends Old Burying Ground"? My ancestor, Rachel Miller, was buried there in late November 1881. (Source: Marietta Register Death Notice for December 1, 1881). Also, would an individual have to be in good standing with the Quaker faith in order to be buried in their burial ground? Thanks sincerely for answers to these many questions.

I am looking for information of my father and his ancestry. His name was Franklin Foster DYE (Sr.?). He was born on January 31, 1901. I believe he lived in Reinersville as a young boy and graduated from High School in McConnelsville. He attended Muskingham College and transferred from there to Ohio State University, Class of 1929. He was raised by his grandmother whose surname was FOSTER. I also believe that for a time he was a teacher at McConnelsville High School. I also know that he graduated from Jefferson Medical School in Philadelphia, PA, Class of 1933. He opened his first medical office in Freeport, OH and from there moved his practice to Cadiz, OH. I know the ancestry from that point forward. Am looking for anything to identify my fathers maternal or paternal ancestry. Please respond to my email address. Thank you very much...My E-Mail Address is badbadleroybrown@msn.com

I posted a lot of extraneous information to the "Guestbook" before realizing there was a Query Poster! I apologize for this redundancy. At the risk of being tiresome to readers here's a repeat summary of my query. Looking for additional names, dates, and places on my grandmother's side of the family, RAMSEY, Mabel. She was married to HOOVER, Delbert C.. Most of his brothers, Dayton, Lewis F., Andrew J. Cevil and John, lived in Morgan County all their lives - places like Stockport and Chesterhill, and I believe both of my grandparents are burried in McConnesville. She in 1965 and he some time close to 1990. Mabel had a married sister, Net (Nettie) SIMS. The SIMS lived in McConnelsville all their lives. I noticed a query by Teresa Hagans, dated Sun Aug 3, 1997 looking for help with William BURRIS. I also have a BURIS, Susan, born 1839, she is my great great grandmother who married Andrew M. HOOVER, 1834-1863. Susan remarried after Andrew M. Hoover died in the civil war, changing her married name to either Ingle or Angle, I'm told. I'd like to follow-up with Teresa on this, but am unable to bring up her e-mail address at this point! Can anyone can provide additional links to the construction of this family tree?
