I am trying to research my great grandmother Rachel Pierpoint HOLLETT born Oct. 6, l863 in Pennsville, Oh. Her parents, Joseph HOLLETT and Mary COULSON were also born in Ohio, but I don't know where. The years were 1824 and 1833. Joseph's father was born in Maryland..I have no first name or place in Maryland. My great grandmother had sisters named Lydia, Martha, Mary A. and Olive L. There was one brother named Joseph J. HOLLETT born about 1869. What was Pennsville like during this time frame? Rumor has said that they might have been a Quaker family. Due to the birth years of all the children it seems that Joseph the father did not participate in the Civil War. Any help would be greatly appreciated. In turn I can go to the National Archives and look up some things for you.

Joseph N. COMBS was born in Loudoun co, Va in 1808. He mar- ried Nancy Jane BRABHAM in Loudoun co, Va in 1831. He is said to be the son of Robert COMBS and Nancy SEARS of Loudoun co, Va who had come to Morgan co, Oh in 1824. Joseph didn't come to Morgan co, Oh until 1841. Is he perhaps the son of John COMBS (Rev War vet) and Nancy GREEN which would explain why he was still in Loudoun co, Va much later than Robert COMBS? Nancy GREEN VINANDER COMBS (wife of John) died Apr 13, 1860 at the age of 92y 27d in Morgan co, Oh and is buried in the Ebenezer United Methodist Church cem. Who were Joseph's parents?

I am trying to determine if my great great grandfather, John DOVER, born in Muskingham Co., in about 1825, is the son of Daniel Dover, who owned land with his brother Hiram in Morgan Co. I have a fair amount of information from a cousin of Daniel about that Dover family, and have traced my Dovers back to 1870, but am looking for confirmation or denial of the link to Daniel Dover and his ancestors. Both families have a Lemuel, which makes me think they are related. Any help would be appreciated.

I am reseraching the surname WOGAN from around Morgan County, Homer Twsp. I have traced back to the 1850 Census with David WOGAN (born abt 1803 in VA) married to a Hannah DENNIS (born about 1831 in OH). Children included Elizabeth A, Polly, Margaret, William, Lucinda and Charlotte (all born to another mother). By 1860, they had added Aaron J, Reuben, Albert, Betsey, Vinton, and Jacob. I understand there was at least one or two more. Vinton WOGAN was my great-grandfather. He married Druzilla E. SMITH. Their children included Perley F., Etta F., Jesse O., Doris G., Harry B., Augusta L., Nathaniel A., Esther E., and Paul. Paul WOGAN was my grandfather. He married Retta Lou STRAHL. They had five boys and lived on a farm around Plantersville. I would be interested in any information on the surnames WOGAN, STRAHL, DENNIS, SMITH, DAVIS, ROBERTS, DOAN, or HARDWAY. Thanks.

This is the story of Thomas William ROBINSON. He started his life full of promise and had married and purchased a farm near his father in Athens county Ohio.. Thomas had a hard life. He had to carve a life out of the wilderness in the southern portion of Athens county. He had three sons George B., John William and Charles Harvey, which I am sure was a proud time for him. Then his first young wife Magdalena Haning Robinson died. He lived for several years alone until he found Anna Catherine Smith. She was also a widow with a young son John F. Smith. They married and had three children together, Mary Lydia, Ida A., and a new son Samuel. Thomas's mother died, Thomas sold his land in Athens county and moved the family to MORGAN COUNTY, Ohio. His brother Sidner/Sydner Robinson was a married teacher there in 1860 with four children. There Thomas purchased a farm. His real estate according to the 1870 Morgan county census now totaled $5000. He was beginning to get on his feet again. Then the unthinkable happened, Anna Catherine Smith Robinson died. He now needed more help than ever with his combined family of 7 children. Catherine's cousin Matilda Smith wanted to help out. She married Thomas the next year in Morgan county. In 1870, the next year, Thomas and Matilda began a family of their own. Born to them was Arthelia Rosetta, Lucy Jane, and Alice Mathilda. Thomas's father John died in 1871. He left an inheritance for Thomas. In 1874 his three oldest sons maternal grandfather Isaac Haning died in Meigs county and left them an inheritance. They married and began lives of their own in Morgan county. In about 1875 Thomas decided to try a new venture for his young family. He moved the family to Coffeyville, Kansas. Coffeyville was a new town and was full of promise of big money in cattle ranching. This was a mistake for him because he died there in 1878. I don't know exactly what happened but only know that his wife and children came back to Morgan county and are found living in the Poorhouse, destitute by 1880. The youngest children, two infants were sent out to Matilda's brother Henry Smith, who lived in LaFarge Wisconsin, Vernon county, by train and Henry raised them as his own. The child Mary went to live with half brother Charles Harvey Robinson. The daughter Ida and the son Samuel were not found in records at this time. I'm thinking that they were living with one of the older brother George B. or John Harvey and their wives until they married in Morgan county. The daughter Rose was sent to a farm to live as a servant for a large family. The mother Matilda Smith Robinson died in Morgan county in 1882. She is buried in the Jerusalem church cemetery next to Thomas. Did Thomas catch an illness in Kansas, was he murdered for his money? Did his wife Mathilda also catch the illness? Hopefully someday we will find out what happened to him and figure out what left the family divided from each other for over 50 years. Thomas's tombstone in the Jerusalem church cemetery in Morgan county has a carved open book on the top of it. This was a sign that the person buried was either a teacher or a minister. Thomas had came from a family of Babtist preachers. Did he also minister the gospel or was he a school teacher? Hopefully one day we will find these answers.
